In 1999 James made a monumental shift in his career path when he received extensive training and began assisting families in preparing for and protecting their retirement assets from future long-term health care costs. This work brought him national recognition as one of the top-ten Long-Term Care specialists in the United States. During his tenure as a Long-Term Care Specialist he has assisted over 1200 families with valuable insurance, financial, and estate planning strategies.
In 2008 he began an affiliation with the nation’s leading authority on the Veterans Administration’s “Aid & Attendance” benefit. James spends a portion of his time working with Veteran families, a practice he greatly enjoys and through which he gleans an enormous amount of joy and inspiration. James has personally assisted more than 600 families throughout Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Tennessee in becoming eligible for, completing and submitting the official application, and ultimately securing the VA “Aid & Attendance” benefit. To date, the families for which James has assisted with the VA benefit have been 100% successful in receiving the benefit. He gives credit for his success with the VA benefit to his background as a professional musician which taught him to “always fully-prepare for every gig.” That is also his attitude when assisting families with the VA benefit – make sure everything is 100% complete before submitting the application. This greatly speeds up the overall process and helps in securing the benefit. As owner of Sound Financial Solutions, James works with, primarily, people entering retirement and already enjoying their retirement years. His main focus is helping the individuals and couples he advises understand the major differences in how to invest while they are working and investing during their retirement years. It is this major difference that sets James apart from most financial planners who do not significantly alter their investment recommendations during their client’s retirement years, often causing retirement funds to be at risk or to run out much too soon. James also serves as Music Director for the Unclouded Day Vocal Ensemble, a professional singing group that has been performing together since 1988. He is an accomplished trumpeter and holds the solo flugelhorn chair in the Old Crown Brass Band, a British-style brass band based in Fort Wayne.
